What is Boudoir Photography?

boudoir photography sessions, stunning sexy images
What is ‘Boudoir’ Photography?

Boudoir photography originates from the French term ‘boudoir’ meaning a woman’s bedroom or private sitting room. This is exactly what I recreate for you in a studio setting. Essentially it is sexy provocative photography of a woman, using a variety of props and various sexy lingerie outfits to make you look your absolute sexy best.

Who books a Boudoir Session?

Boudoir photography sessions are for women who wish to capture their personal beauty and create stunning sexy and provocative images for themselves or for their loved one.

Many of my clients just want to celebrate their sexiness in stunning images, and capture that look for posterity, and some have imagined and fantasised about being a sexy model for the day and want to have that experience. I am here to help make your dream become a reality.

Boudoir photography makes the perfect romantic gift for your loved one to share during special occasions such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and of course Valentine’s Day.

I have wanted to do this for so long, but I am very nervous…

Absolutely everyone doing a boudoir photography session feels a little nervous, and yet excited prior to their photoshoot. I always start by taking a number of shots of you in your day clothes so you can get used to the camera and studio lighting. It gives us a change to get to know each other and experiment with different poses. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes for you to warm up in the beginning and before you know it you will be having a blast! There is music in the studio and a glass of wine or two! By the end of the session I often hear from my clients “It was so easy and I had so much fun doing it! I wished I had done this years ago!”

Will you "retouch" my images after the shoot?

I will discuss with you at your shoot how much retouching to your chosen images you would like. I will always retouch any blemishes, spots, etc but you may also wish to remove any stretch marks, cellulite or scars, I have even removed tattoos for clients before now. After a little digital nip & tuck? Not a problem, we can also help here if you wish!

How will I know how to pose?

We will help you with the poses during your boudoir session, we know what looks best and how to show off your best bits and disguise your worst. It always helps look through magazines and tear out any poses that you like. Practice posing in the mirror to help you prepare. Searching the Internet and bringing in magazine pictures will help us get a feel for the style and type of photography that you like best. We will work together to recreate the images that you like.

What clothes should I bring?

I suggest you bring a choice of outfits, and actually prefer it that you bring too much rather than too little. I recommend that you bring a variety of items such as sexy bra and knickers, sexy lingerie, seamed / lacy stockings, suspenders, high heeled shoes / boots and jewellery. I will have my box of ‘tricks’ that you may use during your shoot that contains feather boas, Venetian masquerade masks, sheer wraps etc. Bring your partners favourite work shirt or surprise him with that sexy outfit he loves on you!

How old must I be?

You must be 18 years of age and be able to show proof of ID prior to your photoshoot in order to do a Boudoir session.

Who will photograph my boudoir session and be present during the shoot?

I will photograph your boudoir session and one of my female assistants will be in the studio to help advise on different poses, change props and move around the lighting.

How secure are my boudoir photos?

I respect your privacy and will handle you photographs with the utmost care and respect. Your privacy is guaranteed. Apart from myself and my assistant on set no one else will see your images without your consent. Your images will not be posted anywhere without your consent. We are very honoured and appreciative of our clients who have given us permission to be featured on our website and in our portfolio.
How do I prepare for my boudoir photography session?

Do not wear any tight fitting clothing when you arrive for your shoot. Tight bra straps, belts, etc. may leave marks on your skin so wear loose fitting clothes. Another great tip used by lots of models prior to a shoot is to avoid eating greasy foods and drink lots of water in the 24 hours prior to the shoot.

What makeup do you recommend for a boudoir photography session?

Make sure you bring along your make-up bag especially your face powder to combat shine under the studio lights and any hair accessories. If you are purchasing a package that includes a professional make over and hair styling. The make-up artist will discuss with you the look you want to create and she will be present throughout the session to make sure your make-up looks fresh and change your hair style accordingly.

Will you photograph couples in a boudoir setting?

Yes, we enjoy working with all couples. We are romantics at heart and love to create images that show romance and love.
